As a 1K member, you can book, change or cancel an award ticket at any time without paying a fee. Visit our award fees page for more information.

Exempt from baggage fees
1K® members are exempt from first and second checked bag fees. Some baggage charges may apply if more than two bags are checked or if any bag is overweight or oversized. Up to eight passengers who are booked under the same confirmation number as a Premier member are granted the same free baggage allowance.

Minimum flight mileage accrual
Elite members earn a minimum of 500 redeemable miles and 500 EQM on United flights that are less than 500 miles.

As a 1K^® member, you're entitled to an enhanced level of service and a number of exclusive rewards, including:

100% 1K mileage bonuses
As a 1K member your rewards include the highest automatic MileagePlus bonus offered - a 100% redeemable bonus on your paid miles, based on flights origin and destination on United, United Express and US Airways flight. This bonus is valid on Transatlantic Lufthansa flights between U.S. and Europe, and on any ANA operated flight.

This redeemable mileage bonus is in addition to the credit you receive for the paid miles you fly, based on the origin and destination of your flights.

Premier Access and Star Alliance Gold benefits
Premier Executive members also receive benefits when flying on any Star Alliance® member airline. When you fly on United or Continental, these benefits will soon be called Premier Access. When flying on other Star Alliance member airlines, they’re called Star Alliance Gold benefits. They include:

• Priority airport check-in
• Priority reservations waitlist when the flight or eligible fare requested is full on any Star Alliance member airline
• Priority baggage allowance, which allows one additional checked bag for a total of three on any Star Alliance flight where the piece concept applies in any class of service (OR an additional 20 kilos weight allowance where the weight concept applies)
• Priority airport standby (where allowed by law) if you do not have a confirmed reservation on a Star Alliance flight
• Priority boarding

Star Alliance lounges
When traveling on qualifying international itineraries on any Star Alliance member, present your same-day international ticket and your 1K card, and you may relax in any Star Alliance lounge. Look for the "Star Alliance Gold" sign outside eligible lounges.

Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM)
Flight miles earned on most paid, published fares on Star Alliance airlines count toward elite status qualification. Plus, when you fly on United or United Express, Continental, US Airways, Air Canada and Lufthansa on a paid ticket in First Class (F A), Business Class (J C D Z) and Unrestricted Economy (Y B), you can earn a 50% EQM.EQS bonus. So it's easier than ever to regain your 1K status.

You are invited to apply for the MileagePlus Signature Visa^®, the card that lets you earn one MileagePlus mile for every U.S. dollar in purchases you make on your card.

You are invited to enroll in United's exclusive Red Carpet Club and enjoy the amenities of our private clubrooms in major airports around the world. As a 1K member, you'll receive a discount off the annual membership dues.

Important notes about your 1K membership
Unless otherwise stated, the terms and conditions set forth in the MileagePlus Program Rules are applicable to the Premier program, including rules for mileage accrual, award redemption and conditions affecting the use of certificates, such as stopovers, open jaws and area of travel.

Qualification Period
Qualification is required each year, based on paid miles or segments flown between January 1 and December 31. The benefits for 2011 1K status presented here are for members who qualified in the 2010 calendar year or during 2011.

Program benefits and qualifications are subject to change from year to year.

All MileagePlus miles earned on United Airlines, United Express and Star Alliance partner flights are based on origin and destination of paid flights. Most bonus miles do not count toward earning elite status.
